From Bamboo to Dignity: How Kolhariya Village Built Its Own Change

With the support of Ambedkar Foundation and in partnership with Goonj under the Cloth for Work (CFW) initiative, the villagers of Kolhariya came together to address a local need: creating functional and durable seating spaces within their village. Instead of waiting for outside help, they chose to build their own solution using a resource they had in abundance bamboo.

Men and women of the village actively participated in crafting sturdy bamboo benches, transforming raw materials into meaningful infrastructure. These benches are now placed in common areas, serving as gathering spots for discussions, rest, and community bonding. Under the CFW model, the effort and time contributed by the villagers were recognized through the distribution of essential kits provided by Goonj.
