Environment and Climate Action

Community-led resilience against a changing climate.

Rural and forest-dependent communities in Jharkhand are on the front line of climate impacts. We support forest rights, sustainable natural resource use, and community-based environmental action — including through the Jharkhand Van Adhikar Manch and Jharkhand Jungle Bachao Andolan.

What we focus on

  • Forest rights awareness and advocacy
  • Community-led natural resource management
  • Climate-resilient agricultural practices
  • Participation in environmental protection networks and campaigns

Our work in this area

Concrete initiatives, campaigns, and projects we have run on the ground.

Participation in the JJBA — a state-level movement for forest protection and community rights over forest land, including mobilisation against illegal deforestation and forest diversion in tribal areas.

Partner / Funder — JJBA

Active coordination with JVAM on community forest rights implementation, including mapping of community forest resources, gram sabha resolutions, and FRA claim filing for collective ownership.

Partner / Funder — JVAM

Promoting drought-resilient seed varieties and water-conservation techniques among small and marginal farmers in the Chatra and Giridih blocks most exposed to erratic monsoon patterns.

Village-level sensitisation on forest conservation, biodiversity, and the connection between healthy forests and community water security — particularly relevant for communities depending on seasonal streams fed by forest cover.
